More about my work

I work with couples, families and individuals.

Systemic Psychotherapy or Family Therapy helps people in close relationships to help each other. It involves meeting with a trained therapist in a safe, neutral place. Family members are supported to put into words and explore difficult thoughts and feelings; to understand each other’s experiences, worries and views; to appreciate the needs of different family members; to build on family strengths; and to make changes in their relationships and their lives.

Systemic therapists also work with people individually, again focussing on relationships with other people as well as relationships between different parts of a person’s life.

Families sometimes get into difficulties through differences with one another, or when things go wrong eg when family members experience physical illnesses, mental health problems, major life events or a combination of difficulties.

Couples can get stuck in distressing negative cycles of conflict - I draw on emotionally focussed therapy techniques to work with them on repairing their relationship.

Sometimes one or two meetings can be enough to help people free up their strengths; sometimes difficulties are complex and people may need longer to find the things that work for them.
